Paul is Ash's new rival in the Diamond and Pearl series. He is an aggresive trainer who want nothing but pure power from his Pokémon and the trainers he faces to be strong. He always has nothing but insults for the people whom he defeats easily, and even though his Pokémon work hard for him, to him it is never near good enough. It is possible Paul's nature came from a bad childhood but this is never confirmed in the series.
